General Public to Get Booster Shots from Middle of October

Phnom Penh: Booster shots for the general public are to be rolled out from the middle of next month. The Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday evening that the royal government will start providing booster shots against Covid-19 in the capital, to be followed by other provinces.

Phnom Penh’s booster shots will roll-out from the 11th of October. That is for adults who were initially vaccinated at least four months ago. The kingdom will use Sinovac as the booster dose. Out of 14 districts in the capital, only 11 will start on that date. Daun Penh, Chroy Changvar and Prek Pnov districts will start providing booster shots from 30 October. It’ll be the same date for Kandal. According to the health ministry, other provinces will kick off booster vaccinations between 8 November and 16 December.

Cambodia has already inoculated over 800 thousand people with booster shots. It started with frontline healthcare workers and government officials. Since 10 February, the kingdom has fully vaccinated over 72% of the population over the age of 12. Five days after launching vaccinations for children aged six to 11, the Royal Government says it has already inoculated more than 900 thousand of this age group. Cambodia will receive an additional six million doses of Sinovac over the next few weeks, which will all support the rollout of booster shots to the general population, including children from the age of 6.
